Tips for Virtual Retreat

1. Be gentle & flexible with yourself. retreats at home are not simple or easy. There are dogs, kiddos, roommates, laundry, distractions. Smile. So. Begin where you begin.

Create more space for yourself if you can.

Bring Spirit & attention to whatever space you are in.

2. Create the space you are able to create. To your ability, find a space for yourself. Perhaps a corner of the dining room table, bedroom, porch - maybe for you space will mean taking a walk, or sitting “amidst” the distractions. Headphones might be helpful. If you love alone - maybe a space different from work space?

3. Sacred space. Gather up some items that will remind you of the sacredness of your space. A blanket or favorite fabric, art, photos, we sent you a candle, choose your favorite mug, maybe a small altar space. Altars can be created on placemats or coffee tables or throw a cloth on the floor.

4. Silence. Silence isn’t always about lack of sounds, but about interrupting our tendencies to distract ourselves from our own thoughts. Decide what takes you deeper into yourself - if music helps, use music. For most of us social media & TV are distracting. You don’t have to fill every moment with activity and you don’t have to silence every noise. Breathe. Listen.

5. Listen to your body. Move, eat, rest, hydrate. Be in your senses. Incense, the candle, tea, chocolate, fruit, art, images, fabric, lotion, bath, shower, nap. If you need to engage with more than just this retreat - bring your sense to those places, too. The hot water of the dishes, the hand of a partner or child, the smell of dinner.

6. Engage. Personally & Collectively. This might mean journaling, writing, crying, listening, self-talk, more silence, conversation. Choose the online gatherings & offerings that work for you. The most important engagement happens in your heart. When we bring our hearts together - something happens. The work is personal, not individual.
